Recently, when I was undergoing a training in my new job, I met a teacher. On the final day of the training, when she wanted me to ask any questions and leave a feedback, I ended the conversation with these lines,” Ma’am what you talked about mental health in the last 5 to 10 minutes, those minutes were the best part in last 5 days of training. You are the best ma’am.”
And the expressions on her face after listening to these statements, I can’t forget that. Her genuine smile made me smile too. And she replied to me saying, “Thank you Sweta! You know how to make someone’s day!”
That’s when I realized how simple and comforting it is to make someone’s day. And how much this small gesture can have an impact on them. What I said was more of a real appreciation rather than fake flattery. Because I was genuinely impressed by her teaching personality and her way of interacting with all those trainees along with me. Moreover, her closing statement made me realize how important is this simple gesture that you can use to make someone’s day. Besides, how right did I do after giving her genuine compliments. That was also the time when I decided to write about this in my blog. And so here I am.
How much do we need this type of little gesture?
We’re all warriors in our everyday lives who fight in a number of battles daily. Everyone is broken by the constant fight between their inner selves and their surroundings. Somebody may be juggling between difficult family circumstances and work, while for others figuring things out is still overwhelming. Somebody may be going through a tough time in their relationship. Somebody may just be tired of trying too hard and hustling and getting no positive results out of it whatsoever.
What is required during such times is a little more empathy, a little more concern to help them raise their vibes again. We need to empathize with them and understand that all of us are homo sapiens who just cannot be productive and 100% efficient at all times. Someone at their breaking point could be saved from doom if the next thing they experienced wasn’t more pain, criticism, and judgment but instead a few kind words from a stranger that do not make them feel worthless.
Why does it matter?
In today’s world, most of us struggle to find a single moment to spare or to smile at our neighbors. While there also exist some individuals who simply love knowing that they have made a difference in someone’s life which makes them feel good. Knowing they’ve done things with pure intent is enough for them.
Acknowledgment and admiration can bring us warmth, along with the sweet little packets of joy. We feel happy and it boosts our confidence as well. I don’t know a single person who wouldn’t appreciate compliments for a job well done or praise for their progress or recognition for their vivacious personality. It is the sweetest and most valuable gift for anyone.
So do it. Celebrate their wins equally as you would have celebrated yours. All little things count too. Such little gestures will cost you nothing but a few minutes but may make somebody’s day. Maybe they are going through tough times but beautiful comments along with a big smile can give them the courage and confidence to fight their problems. In the end, it somewhere makes us cheerful throughout the day. After all, at the end of the day, it’s you who needs to face the person in the mirror.

Bottom Line
You never know what kind of day someone is having. So make sure to let people know that they matter. Make sure that they know they’re wanted because sometimes, that’s all it takes. If you are able to bring a smile to their faces for apparently no reason whatsoever, that’s a “moment of hope again” for them. Moreover, that’s the easiest and the best way to make someone’s day. Give random compliments. Smile more. Talk to them. Hear them out. Clap for them. Remember, this clap will make your life sound greater.
Making someone’s day can be effortless indeed. All you have to do is just be kind to yourself and others. Remember, the energy you put out is the same energy you invite back. So, it becomes obvious to be a magnet for blessings by being a blessing to others.
Be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.
