People all over the world celebrate Diwali to celebrate the victory of light over darkness. Then, why can’t we take any action in order to eliminate the darkness within us? Let’s find the divine light hidden inside each of us to brighten up our lives with the light of hope, courage, love, and happiness.

Diwali, a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope and happiness over despair. Lightning ‘Diyas’ is considered auspicious on this occasion. Everyone is illuminating their houses so that there should not be any sign of darkness anywhere. But what about the darkness that is prevailing in each of us? Have you ever thought to remove that darkness as well?

First of all, we need to understand that both light and darkness are different aspects of the same coin. The problem arises when darkness which is a negative emotion counter affects that of the light. For example, matters from the past are still alive in our minds. Dust of misunderstanding and grudges against someone harms us every single time.

What’s the need to find the light within us?

While dealing with the uncertainties of everyday life, we find ourselves occupied with different emotions. These emotions are both of happiness as well as of sadness, of zeal as well as of laziness, and both of success and failure. The emotions of love, peace, joy, and satisfaction are our inner lights while worries, fear, anxiety, laziness, envy, and procrastination are the darkness hidden inside us.

Negative emotions like stress, anxiety, envy, and laziness can block our path to illumination. We often get trapped in a narrow perspective of the world which pushes us more towards the darkness instead of the path towards the light. And if we don’t control these emotions, they have the ability to darken our lives forever. The drastic effects of stress, depression, worries, and laziness are many, which must be eliminated.

7 ways to illuminate the light within yourself

We can fight the darkness around us, only when we illuminate the positivity from inside us. To be able to recognize our own inner light is a skill. To develop this skill, we need to dive a little more into our inner self i.e. our true self. When we recognize this, love & joy automatically blossom. Instead of being random and chaotic, we then experience a more unified presence within us that is centered in our hearts.

Turn on the light within, expand your horizons and reach your full potential.

Here are some of the ways that can help you to deal with the darkness within your inner consciousness.

1. Practice daily meditation and introspection

Your thoughts make or break you. Meditation allows you to get rid of all the useless thoughts so that you can focus only on the present. And when you focus only on the present, rather than oscillating between past and future, more than 80% of your problems are solved. If you can just close your eyes for 5 to 6 minutes daily and focus only on your breathing, you will be one step closer to the divine path of light hidden within you.

As far as introspection is concerned, don’t confuse it with that of overthinking. Introspection means examining yourself in a proper manner, which can definitely lead to overthinking if you practice it above a limit.

2. Develop a willingness to let go

You must be willing to let go of the things which are beyond your control. Just let go of the past, your losses, pain, fear, and unpleasant emotions, and keep moving forward. It doesn’t mean you are giving up, but it’s just that now you have accepted it and can’t allow it to cause you more damage.

3. Spend some time with the nature

It is always said that a teacher is a candle that guides us to the right path of life. And when it comes to illuminating yourself from within, there can not be a better teacher than Nature itself. Just observe your surroundings carefully. From The Sun, The Moon, different trees, animals, rivers, and mountains to other different components of nature have countless lessons for us to offer.

The Sun teaches us the lessons of hope, selflessness, and consistency while The Moon teaches us to be calm, patient, and persistent. Rocks or mountains teach us the lessons of strength, courage, and determination while water teaches us to keep moving always irrespective of the obstacles we face in our way.

4. Count your blessings

The art of practicing thankfulness is often underrated. We should practice a little more acceptance by counting our blessings. More acceptance and fewer complaints lead to a more satisfied and happier life.

5. Read more and more

The one thing which you will find common in most successful people is that they are never tired of reading books. By reading here, I definitely don’t mean reading your textbook chapters again and again or reading an Instagram post that someone has posted on their timelines.

Reading here means you can read at least some pages from a self-help book daily or some inspirational biographies. Not only this, it may include Books on any categories like fiction, suspense, productivity, and the list is long. Anything beneficial for your mental health is worthy of reading. It may include any articles or blog posts too.

Reading has enormous lifelong benefits. These benefits include:

  • Reducing stress and alleviating depressing thoughts
  • Strengthening the brain and improving vocabulary
  • Opens you to new perspectives of life
  • Increases imagination and creativity

6. Never underestimate the power of ‘SELF LOVE’

Many people think that self-love means being selfish and so they often overlook its importance. But the reality is that self-love is one of the key ingredients of your mental well-being. It doesn’t mean being selfish, it just means not being too tough on yourself.

If you can’t love yourself for what you are, you can’t love others as well. You need to change the way you talk to yourself. You need to appreciate yourself a little more than to continuously curse yourself and your luck for each little problem taking place in your life.

Self-love has many benefits like:

  • It gives us a more positive attitude towards life, resulting in a more satisfying life.
  • Helps in developing healthy habits.
  • It results in better mental health. You become less prone to anxiety or worries.

Look around the world by putting yourself a little higher on your priority list and then you will feel the difference.

7. Learn from your failures and mistakes

Instead of being down on yourself after every failure, think about how that mistake or failure can help you grow and progress towards enlightenment.

Final thoughts

If the Sun or moon is covered by clouds, it doesn’t mean that they don’t exist. It just means that they have to wait for the clouds to get over them so that they can shine again.

In a similar way, we all are meant to shine. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. There is some good even in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. As soon as we discover this, we become less prone to darkness.

Where there is light, there is growth. Once you have stepped on the path of this illumination, you will notice the growth that is taking place within you. It’s the time to let our own lights shine by liberating us from our own worries. Bathe your mind with such luminescence that there is no place for any darkness. Let’s light the ‘Diya’ within to invoke our divinity. And let this Diya glow forever to make our life auspicious.

In you is the light, in you is the might, come riding your fiery steed and light up even the darkest night.

Best wishes on your journey of illumination and enlightenment.
