We live in a society that prides itself on the accumulation of stuff; we eat up consumerism, material possession, clutter, debt, distractions, and noise.

Tina Williamson

Agreeing with the above statement, I personally believe a good portion of people hate minimalism. But I am someone who is a fan of the minimalist lifestyle. Possessing many things together sounds cool and good to have but if they don’t help us grow in any significant way, then what’s the point of having them? Moreover, there is something freeing about living with just the basics.

What is minimalism?

Minimalism is a tool to simplify your life to its fullest by getting rid of the unnecessary clutter or complications of materialistic possessions. It favors on focussing what is important so that we can find happiness, fulfillment, and freedom. It is the realization that “LESS IS MORE” and no material possessions can make you satisfied or happy unless you yourself want to be happy.

In this article, I have discussed my reasons to be a minimalist.

1. It allows me to be more focused and increasingly more productive

Controlled by simpler existence, one can dedicate more time to other important things like investing in any projects or meaningful relationships with others. And when there is less stuff to focus on, your attention span automatically increases making you more productive rather than keeping you distracted.

2. It allows a clear vision of your priorities

A minimalist lifestyle allows you to focus on what really needs to be accomplished at the present moment. You might have a long TO-DO’S and therefore prioritization of tasks become important. Moreover, less time and energy is spent which makes the process of decision-making easier.

3. It allows me to simplify life and live consciously

The urge to want for more completely goes away when you are a minimalist. As a result of which it allows for simpler and conscious living. We can have more time for ourselves as well as for our family or friends. Moreover, living with less can give you freedom of time, creative freedom, and financial freedom.

4. Less clutter, Less stress, More peace

The state of your surroundings is a direct reflection of the state of your mind and vice versa. And when this surrounding is full of stuff or clutter, then our mind becomes anxious too correspondingly. You become less productive when things are messy and disorganized Moreover, this clutter blocks us from reaching our goals, by constantly crying out for our attention. And if something is not helping us to reach our goals, it’s better to get rid of it.

We often have a lot of stuff present in our house, which we don’t use. Eliminating most of those will enable you to focus on reaching your goals and getting results a whole lot faster. Minimalism allows de-cluttering, making this process easier. It also helps in reducing stress and promoting peace.

5. It saves tons of time and energy

You can devote more time to things that matter the most to you. You can prioritize your tasks. The urge to waste time on unimportant things like selecting which dress to wear for an occasion completely goes away when you are left with fewer choices. Minimalists always have more time on their hands.

6. It allows me to save more money

When it comes to buying things I know the difference between “want” and “need”. I buy things which I need not just because I want to buy that. Because needs are limited while wants are infinite. Minimalists want to have fewer manageable items. As a result of which, they can save more money. And by the way, rather than buying stuff, I would prefer to spend my money on traveling and exploring the world.

Do not follow the trend of minimalism just because everyone else is doing it. Follow it because it works for you. As far as my opinion, I bring new things into my life only when absolutely necessary. I don’t want to load my life with too many complications. Already there are enough of them, not more, please! And more importantly, we should have more incredible stories and experiences to discuss, not just incredible clutter in our closets that need our regular attention. Don’t you think so?
