Each one of us has different types of goals set for the coming new year. Some of us want to start a new business while some may be planning to join a gym. But here, we will discuss Spiritual goals because no matter how we are as a person and what our beliefs are, we always strive for spirituality at some point in our life.

Finally, that time of the year arrived again. Since 2023 is about to end, everyone is busy preparing for the new year. And when it comes to celebrating a new year, we are all ready with a To-do list or resolutions which we want to achieve in the new year, which we could not have succeeded in all these times. And why not do this, as a new year means a new beginning, and it’s never too late to start something new.

What are Spiritual goals?

Spiritual goals are nothing but your believes and intentions that you use to connect to your inner self. These are the goals that can help you to attain your spiritual awakening and enlightenment.

The need for Spiritual goals

Spiritual goals help us to mature spiritually and build a better relationship with ourselves. It allows us to grow and evolve even when we are stuck with the problems of our life.

Here is a list of some of the spiritual goals that can give you the required enlightenment, which you want in your life.

1. Practice gratitude

Being grateful is the first step to spirituality.

Mahatma Gandhi said once, “I was sad because I didn’t have shoes and then I saw a man with no feet.” That’s what gratitude is all about. It teaches us to remain grateful for everything that we have and never take anything for granted. Because what we possess now, is still a dream for others.

2. Be in the present

These days, we have become so prone to distraction and instabilities of our life. That is the reason our mind is never focused. It has become a slave to our thoughts, which most of the time are related to either our past or our future.

Life unfolds in the present. So your focus should always be on living at the present moment.

3. Pray more, believe more

Always begin your day with a prayer. Never stop praying even after God gave you what you were praying for. There is an immense strength in prayers that can change your whole world. It provides you the strength to deal with your difficulties and motivates you with a never-ending hope for your life. The more you believe in prayers, the more grace you receive from God.

4. Don’t push yourself too hard

No matter how hard we try, it’s not necessary that we will succeed every single time. The same logic applies to our happiness. We can’t be happy all the time. But that doesn’t mean we start blaming ourselves. Creating guilt or self-hatred only depletes us. Being too hard on yourself will not solve your worries, but in contrast, it can lead you to mental exhaustion by causing more stress. You need to embrace your imperfections, rather than just cursing yourself.

5. Spread love and kindness

Be kind always, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle, which you are not aware of.

Plato

It really costs nothing to be kind.

6. Be patient

Not everything happens according to your plans or desires. No matter what we plan, sometimes we need to accept that destiny has different plans for us. At that time the most important thing which we require, but we lack is patience. We are always in such a hurry that we have forgotten the importance of patience and persistence.

He that can have patience can have what he will.

Benjamin Franklin

7. Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness can be achieved by doing meditation. I know, the simpler is the process of meditation, the more we deny it to perform. But for starting, you can just close your eyes for 5 minutes and breathe deeply. That’s all. See, how little we have to do!

Then after some days, you can extend the duration to 10 minutes or as per your choice. Now, notice the change in your life. You can control your thoughts in a much better way now.

8.Value your alone time

In our busy and messy lives, the one thing that we always crave is our inner peace. And in order to protect your peace, you need to give yourself some alone time. Be aware of yourself first rather than knowing about the people in your surroundings.

Have you ever noticed why an introvert is always assumed to be alone? Introverts are not alone, it’s just that they never compromise their peace with that of other little things or other people.

9. Get rid of toxic people and negative energies

These are the people who do nothing apart from triggering your emotions. So, it’s better to stay away from such negative energies that are injurious to your mental health.

Well, this is something which is on everybody’s new year’s resolution list. Try your best not to quit your exercise plans, no matter how busy your schedule is.

11. Value yourself

Give some priority to yourself. Practice some self-love and self-care.

12. Go on a trip

Travel to some places, either alone or with your close ones. It not only rejuvenates you to your fullest, but it also boosts your self-esteem and improves your health by disconnecting you from stress.

13. Develop a habit of writing a diary or journals

Writing your thoughts in a diary or journal not only makes you feel better but is also an effective way to increase your productivity.

14. Let go of the things which you can’t control

Let go of the frustration, anger, past guilts, grudge, and all those emotions which give you nothing but pain.

15. Be yourself

Stop comparing yourself to others. Work on your personal development, rather than just being affected by others’ timelines in your news feed. Get rid of the social media trap and use it wisely.

16. Cheer up. Smile more

Why carry a gloomy face every single time?

Smile and laugh more. Believe me, its therapy may be the best of all therapies.

18. Learn the art of appreciation

Learn to appreciate every single day of your life. Invest some time to appreciate all those people who mean to you a lot.

19. Never underestimate the power of silence

We are surrounded by noise all around in our daily life. Take a pause of silence to free yourself from this noise.

20. Forgive and forget

Forgive others not because they deserve forgiveness or not but because you deserve peace.

21. Read books

This is one of the best habits which you can have. A habit with only benefits, no side effects. Read more and more, as much as you can. There is no end to knowledge, so keep reading and keep learning.

22. Relax

Relax my friend! Slow down a little. Your life is not a competition, but an adventure. And to continue this adventure in an exciting manner, you need to keep yourself recharged.

Even your phone which you need every time needs to be recharged, being a non-living instrument. So don’t you think, you, being a living human needs some rest too?

Don’t underestimate the importance of relaxation.

23. Spend some time with nature

Nature has so much to teach us. To me, spending some time with nature is more fascinating than a shopping mall or a restaurant. Observe the trees, plants, Sun, Moon, water everything around you and you will find serenity in the lap of nature.

24. Start your morning with these lines every day

I am blessed.

God is always with me.

I can do it.

Today is my day.

I am unique.

25. Stop waiting for the perfect time.

Do what makes you happy right now. Start living your life to its fullest right now because tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Final thoughts

By deciding on just one day, a habit does not change. But if we nurture the same good thought with discipline and determination, we can adapt it to our daily life. The same logic applies to our new year’s resolutions too. You can not achieve all these goals at once, as change won’t happen overnight. You need to practice it on a consistent basis.
